With less than five days to go until the 2019 Guiyang International Marathon hits the city streets on June 16, much of the preparation work for the big race has already been completed.
According to Liang Shulian, director of Guiyang Municipal Bureau of Sports, the Guiyang International Marathon has attracted a large number of participants since it was successfully held in 2003.
This year's event consists of a 42 kilometer marathon, 21 kilometer half-marathon, and 5 kilometer mini-marathon. A total of 25,138 people from 21 countries and regions will participate in the international marathon with 4,990 taking part in the full marathon, 10,551 in the half marathon, and 9,597 in the mini-marathon.
The marathon's route is set along many ecological parks, including Guanshanhu Park, Yuanshanhu Wetland Park, Guiyang Karst Park, and Quanhu Park. Participants will be able to appreciate the natural landscape of Guiyang on their run.
The organizing committee has set up various supply stations along the route, including 11 time stations, 17 energy drink stations, and seven drinking water stations.
To facilitate the travel demands of the marathon, participants can take the subway and bus free of charge with their number plates. The time for the first vehicle of Guiyang Metro Line 1 has been pushed up to 5:30 am and five bus routes have been added to assist participants and marathon staff.
In addition, participants will be able to enjoy a 50 percent discount on nine tourist attractions in Guiyang with their ID cards.
