Southwest China's Guizhou province has incorporated all of its towns and villages into its remote medical system, thanks to the application of big data.

Through distant diagnosis, patients don't need to go to downtown areas and wait in line to consult doctors. Also, they can have 80 percent of their online diagnose fees reimbursed if they go to 3A hospitals, even 90 percent for impoverished people.

Statistics show that diseases have become one of the main roadblocks for people's pursuit of happiness and Guizhou has more than 14 million villagers dwelling in remote areas.

Guizhou started to deploy the remote medical system in October 2017, which enabled residents in cities, counties, and villages to make an appointment for diagnosis and vaccine injection, reducing their stress and time waiting for consultation.

"More than 82 percent of patients can visit doctors through the remote system. In 2018 alone, the system served 236,000 patients and provided distant training courses to 154,000 medical workers," said Zha Yan, deputy to the 13th National People's Congress and a senior doctor working in Guizhou.

As the province's medical services and insurance improve, an increasing number of poverty-stricken people are able to get their illness cured. Diseases can cause families to enter poverty due to the money required for treatment and the time taken off from work due to illness.
