Southwest China's Guizhou province was praised by the Supreme People's Court and the Supreme People's Procuratorate on March 12 during the 13th National People's Congress, which is underway in Beijing.
During the report meeting delivered by the two authorities, Guizhou, along with Sichuan and Yunnan provinces, as well as Chongqing, were praised for its efforts in protecting the Chishui and Wujiang rivers basin.
As a key ecological protective barrier located in the upstream of the Yangtze and Pearl rivers, Guizhou has established a cross-regional cooperation mechanism by signing a protective agreement with neighboring areas.
Promoting the development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt is of significance to the national development strategy and Guizhou's procuratorate authorities will spare no efforts to promote the construction of the Guizhou ecological civilization pilot zone, said Fu Xingping, deputy to this year's NPC and Party group secretary of Guizhou procuratorate.
Statistics show that 824 enterprises in Guizhou have been shut or ordered for rectification for breaking the law against pollution since July 2015. More than 200,000 mu (13,333 hectares) of land has been returned to forests, farms, and water areas and over 1,000 metric tons of garbage and solid wastes have been cleaned.
