Guizhou is famous for its summer sightseeing, but during the 2019 Chinese New Year, the southwest China province has become a popular tourist destination for many other attractions, said Li Sanqi, secretary of the Guizhou culture and tourism Party group committee.
Li shared his thoughts while attending this year's session of the 13th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference in Beijing.
Statistics show that in 2018, Guizhou received 969 million visitors and generated tourism revenue of 947.10 billion yuan ($141.19 billion), an increase of 30.2 percent and 33.1 percent respectively. The increase in number of visitors ranked first nationwide.
During the 2019 Spring Festival holiday from Feb 4 to 10, Guizhou was attractive among visitors from all over the world for a number of featured tourism programs, such as skiing, spring resorts, and special cuisine.
For the week-long holiday, 39 scenic spots saw their daily visits respectively exceeding 10,000, and four of them had to launch limits against visits to prevent overcrowding.
Guizhou has attached great importance to take advantage of its resources and grow its tourism industry in recent years. Over three years of efforts, Guizhou has raised its number of visitors from 500 million to one billion and its annual tourism revenue ranked among the top nationwide, said Li.

He also added that Guizhou has maintained its annual growth of visitors and tourism revenue above 30 percent, and that as of now, 897,000 impoverished people in Guizhou have been lifted out of poverty through the development of its tourism industry.
