Colorful Guizhou brings promising future

During the 13th National People's Congress (NPC), which is underway in Beijing, members of the Guizhou delegation introduced the features of the province during interviews with media outlets. Here are some of the highlights of what they said:

Guizhou Red

--Wei Shuwang, mayor of Zunyi

Zunyi is famous for its high quantity and quality production of chili, which are mainly of the red chili variety. At present, the city is home to more than two million mu (133,333 hectares) of chili plantations and has a broad market around the world.

--Yang Yongying, head of Qianxinan Bouyei and Miao autonomous prefecture

The black tea, which is similar to dark red in color, produced in Pu'an county in the autonomous prefecture has amounted to 140,000 mu and more than 10,000 mu in Qinglong county.

Now Pu'an black tea has developed into an industry to help people out of poverty in Guizhou.

--Chen Shaorong, mayor of Tongren

Chen said that Tongren has relocated 202,200 impoverished people in the past three years, accounting for 57.3 percent of the poverty-stricken people in Guizhou who need to be relocated. Now in Tongren, many people smile with rosy cheeks when talking about their current lives.

Guizhou Green

During an interview on March 8, Chen also sent out an invitation for others to visit and enjoy the pristine ecological environment in Tongren, which is well-known for its clean water, fresh air, and fragrant tea.

--Li Gang, mayor of Liupanshui

While talking about Liupanshui, the mayor praised the city's efforts in developing its green agriculture industry. "We have taken advantages of techniques to improve the productivity of our farmland, which is able to generate commercial crops, such as spring tea leaves and kiwi fruit."

--Luo Qiang, head of Qiandongnan Miao and Dong autonomous prefecture

Qiandongnan has become a "green bank" in most people's eyes, as the place has become home to many fruits, tea leaves, herbs, and poultry.

--Zhang Zhi, mayor of Bijie

Bijie has done a great job in ecological environment protection and development, as the city has raised the forest coverage to 56.2 percent of its total land.

Now Bijie is home to 5.17 million mu of special fruits and 3 million mu of forestry products. The output value of its forestry industry has exceeded 30 billion yuan ($4.47 billion) and its tourism annual revenue is more than 10 billion yuan.

Guizhou Blue

--Chen Yan, mayor of Guiyang

Blue represents technology, and Guiyang and Guian New Area have been making extensive efforts to develop big data, which can be used for government affairs, people's daily lives, and commerce.

"Guian New Area has been awarded as the most suitable place for database investment by the China Data Center Alliance and the area is now exploring new models to cultivate more talents for innovation and entrepreneurship," said Sun Dengfeng, director of the area's administrative committee.
