Southwest China's Guizhou province will further develop itself into a national inland open economic pilot area to promote high-quality development by deeper openness, said Shen Yiqin, governor of Guizhou.

Shen shared her thoughts while reviewing the draft foreign investment law at the panel discussion meeting of the Guizhou delegation, part of the 13th National People's Congress, held in Beijing.

During the meeting, the governor put forward some measures that Guizhou will implement to attract more foreign investment, including greatly expanding its market access channels, optimizing its business environment, and encouraging more enterprises to go global, especially to areas along the Belt and Road.

Guizhou will also take more part in the New International Land and Sea Channel to improve its internationalization, she added.

Wei Jianguo, vice-president of the China Center for International Economic Exchanges, said that compared with the three existing laws that focus on the supervision of foreign companies, the draft law emphasizes protection of overseas investors.

"The law is expected to serve as an innovative improvement of China's foreign investment legal system," he said. "The move shows that China is promoting opening-up based on rules and related institutions, in addition to opening-up based on the flow of goods and production factors."

The National People's Congress, the country's top legislative body, will vote on the adoption of the draft foreign investment law on March 15.
