Guizhou province remains committed to continue and expand recent environmental protection measures according to Chen Shaobo, deputy of the Guizhou delegation at the 13th National People's Congress (NPC).

Guizhou is the only ecological civilization pilot zone in the upstream of the Yangtze River, so the province has a responsibility to consolidate a firm barrier against any ecological damages in the area, said Chen when reviewing the national Government Work Report on March 6 at the NPC.

As the director of the Guizhou Development and Reform Commission, Chen introduced a series of measures that Guizhou has taken in recent years regarding the ecological protection, including the comprehensive use of ardealites, improving the digital economy, and establishing an ecology court.

"Practices have proven that Guizhou's efforts are paid off," said Chen. In 2018, the forest coverage in Guizhou accounted for 57 percent of the province's total land. Water quality in the main river exit sections hit a 100 percent good rate, and the green economy accounted for 40 percent of the province's economic structure.

As for future plans, Chen said that the province will keep making green development a priority, striving for the construction of a national ecological civilization pilot zone and improving pollution prevention to promote high-quality development in the Yangtze River Economic Belt.
