The 13th National People's Congress, China's national legislature, opened its second session in Beijing on March 5 and Premier Li Keqiang delivered the Government Work Report during the meeting.
Based on the highlights of 2018 achievements given from the report, Guizhou's performance is outstanding in many aspects, such as:
Economic growth rate
Guizhou ranks first countrywide in terms of economic growth rate in 2018, with its gross regional production rising by 9.1 percent year-on-year. The national gross domestic production totaled 90 trillion yuan ($13.41 trillion) in 2018, increasing by 6.6 percent year-on-year.
In 2018, Guizhou's gross production hit 1.48 trillion yuan, with its growth rate 2.5 percentage points higher than the national rate. 2018 marks a milestone for Guizhou, said Sun Zhigang, secretary of the CPC Guizhou Provincial Committee.
It's worth noting that Guizhou has been on a fast track from relying on traditional economic growth toward a new economic structure, with the green economy and private sector as the main driving forces.
Poverty relief
In 2018, Guizhou has helped 1.48 million people out of poverty, accounting for more than one tenth of the national total of 13.86 million, who have already risen from poverty levels.
The poverty rate in Guizhou has now fallen below 4.3 percent and 761,900 people have been moved into new residences for better living conditions.
In 2018, Guizhou has issued several targeted measures to alleviate poverty, including policy support, job creation, and increased income from tourism promotion, e-commerce trading, and business expansion.
Big data
Guizhou has experienced flourishing development in its big data industry in 2018, as its revenue of above-scale internet-related business increased by 75.8 percent year-on year.
By initiating numerous measures, the province now has become a magnet for global databases and big data enterprises and talents. It saw 1,625 entity businesses integrated with big data in 2018.
According to the China Big Data Development Index Report (2018), Guizhou's big data development index, data openness and sharing index, big data development environment, and big data application index rank 7th, 2nd, 3rd, and 8th nationwide.
Ecological environment protection
The number of Guizhou's good-air days in areas above the county level was maintained above 97 percent in 2018 and its forest coverage was raised more than 57 percent of the total land in the province.
As Fanjing Mountain was listed into the World Natural Heritage, Guizhou has become the province owning the most world's natural heritage sites in China.
People's livelihood improvement
In 2018, the disposable income for urban residents in Guizhou increased by 8.6 percent year-on-year, and 9.6 percent for rural residents, while the national average was 6.5 percent.
In 2018, Guizhou saw an increase of 777,000 jobs in urban areas, provided 23,600 remote medical diagnosis treatments, constructed 35,780 indemnificatory houses, and renovated dangerous houses for 20,640 households in rural areas.
Guizhou governor Shen Yiqin said that people's desire for a good life is the government's goal and the government will keep on working hard to improve the livelihood for them better than ever.
