During an interview of the Guizhou National People's Congress (NPC) delegation on March 5, Li Gang, deputy to the 13th NPC and mayor of Liupanshui city, Southwest China's Guizhou province, reported Liupanshui's achievements in agricultural industrial restructuring.

Shuicheng village, Liupanshui city, has made significant progress in increasing spring tea output. The first 1.5 kilograms of tea, picked in early spring, was sold at 88,000 yuan ($13,107), 98,000 yuan, and 108,800 yuan at an auction on Jan 25.

Another 2,500 kg of tea, picked before Jingzhe, the third of the 24 solar terms that falls on March 6 this year, are ready for market and expected to be sold for 7 million yuan.

Kiwis are another one of Liupanshui's specialties. In 2018, the city exported 540 tons of kiwis, with Russia, the third largest fruit importer in the world, being its biggest client.

Liupanshui started large-scale construction on kiwi planting centers in 2012 and has built 181,800 mu (12,120 hectares) so far. The city's kiwi output reached 20,000 tons in 2018 and is expected to increase substantially in 2020.

With the help of the kiwi planting centers, Liupanshui has succeeded in building Quizhou's first national agricultural industrial park.

The park covers an area of 443.29 square kilometers and involves 151,600 farmers throughout five townships and towns.

With kiwis and tea as its main industries, the park functions as a production, processing, logistics, R&D, demonstration, and service center in Shuicheng.

As the birthplace of the idea of transforming resources into assets, capital into shares, and farmers into shareholders, Liupanshui's rural industrial experiences have been replicated by many other places throughout China.
