Yu Bili, a deputy to China's 13th National People's Congress (NPC), is the secretary of the Party branch of Zheguyuan village, Xingren city, Southwest China's Guizhou province.
In 2000, Yu led villagers in developing certain industries, eventually achieving a breakthrough in vegetable-planting. In 2017, this development led Zheguyuan village to begin playing a leading role in poverty alleviation in Xingren.

At first, many villagers were skeptical of Yu's idea to plant vegetables in fertile farmland with good soil. To convince them, Yu invited the villagers to greenhouses and introduced them to some planting technology.
With no chemical fertilizers or pesticides, the vegetables have proved popular on the market. The villagers eventually realized that safe, healthy, and high-quality agricultural products can help them rise from poverty.
There are now more than 100 vegetable greenhouses throughout Zheguyuan village, and a contract farming system has gradually developed.
