Zhang Shilong, a primary school student from Southwest China's Guizhou province, and Yang Erqi, a student at Guizhou University, have recently won the 11th China Youth Scientific and Technological Innovation Award.

Zhang, a 5th grader, has demonstrated talent in robot programming and scientific creations. He has won awards in many domestic and international science contests.

A graduate of the School of Physics at Guizhou University, Yang currently works in synthesizing carbon-based nanomaterials. During his studies, he published three articles in journals listed in the Science Citation Index (SCI).

Established in 2004, the China Youth Scientific and Technological Innovation Award aims to guide and encourage young people to engage in scientific and technological innovation, with the ultimate goal of nurturing more innovation talents.

This year, the award ceremony was organized by the Communist Youth League of the China Central Committee, the All-China Youth Federation, the All-China Students Federation, and the National Working Committee of Young Chinese Pioneers.

As an annual event, the ceremony awards a total of 100 students every year from elementary school, middle school and universities in China.
