An art exhibition displaying works completed by children in Southwest China's Guizhou province is attracting a lot of attention during the 11th ASEAN Education Cooperation Week, which opened in Guian New Area in Guizhou on July 26.

The exhibits on display involve a dozen traditional arts in Guizhou, such as batik, embroideries of the Miao ethnic group, silver ornaments, weavings, ceramics and paper-cutting, not only reflecting the ideas of the young but expressing their respect for the traditional arts.

"All the works we provided are selected from the homework of our students," said a teacher named Sun Chang. Sun works at the No 5 Middle School in Guiyang, which strives to increase the ethnic cultural elements in compulsory education with optional art courses for students.

A half an hour art course has actually been open for years at Huangguoshu Ethnic Middle School, where over 90 percent of the students are from local ethnic groups. They are exhibiting embroidery works at the exhibition.

Focusing on international cultural cooperation and exchanges, the annual exhibition intends to expand its space devoted to development of traditional arts, especially for ethnic art education.
