Development of cloud technology featuring voice identification began in Guian New Area, Southwest China's Guizhou province on March 14, the same day that a cooperation memorandum was signed.

The technology will be the first of its kind in China and is being developed by Guian New Area, Tsinghua University Research Institute of Information (TURII) and Beijing d-Ear Technologies.

According to the memo, Guian will handle infrastructure and data security for the project in an effort to develop Guizhou into China's first demonstration province for the application of voice identification.

With databases being provided by a number of world technology giants in Guian, including Apple, Tencent and Huawei, Guian aims to construct a service center for Internet identification across the country, said Geng Guigang, deputy director of the Guian New Area administrative committee.

"Voice identification is a more secure way to protect data," said Zhang Bo, a scholar from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, during the signing ceremony. Data security is of significance to everyone and identity confirmation plays a vital role in protecting it, he stressed.

The project is a standard one which uses artificial intelligence, big data and cloud computing to solve daily problems, said Ji Yindong, dean of the TURII at the ceremony.

With the incorporation of South China's database, which is headquartered in Guizhou, the project is expected to be used in services such as finance, medical care and education, developers said.
