Wanda Tourism Town in Danzhai county, Guizhou province welcomed its 22nd "Rotating Mayor"–Dr. Robert Kapp, former president of the US-China Business Council.

Located in Danzhai county, one of the most culturally rich but financially struggling regions in China, Danzhai Wanda Town launched its Rotating Mayor Program, a world-wide campaign to recruit week-long "mayors" in June this year to spread local culture and support local development.

With a total investment of 700 million yuan ($105 million) from China's real-estate giant Wanda Group, the tourism town is situated in the scenic area of Donghu Lake in Danzhai County.

More than two million tourists have visited the village since its opening in July, adding increased economic activity and aiding in poverty alleviation

As newly appointed "Rotating Mayor", Dr. Kapp spent four days touring the town, visiting nearby rural sites, and experiencing the region's diverse culture.

Over forty years, Kapp has travelled to many cities in China, but this was his first visit to Guizhou. He noted his enjoyment of the fresh air, beautiful scenery and distinctive culture that he found in Danzhai.

Kapp said he was again impressed by the changes he has seen in China over many years, and noted that he hoped his brief stint as "Rotating Mayor" would contribute to the economic progress of Danzhai. He visited briefly with local business in Danzhai Wanda village, including shops specializing in Miao ethnic minority and traditional handicraft shops.
