An aircraft from Colorful Guizhou Airlines landed in Mountai Airport on Nov 1, making it the first general aviation airport to be named after China's national liquor brand opened to the air traffic.

With a construction cost of 2.4 billion yuan ($360 million), the airport is located in Moutai town, Renhuai city in Guizhou province.

Moutai town's tradition of distilling liquor can be traced back 3,000 years and the honed skill of the local distilleries has made the town's spirit a world famous brand.

The opening of the airport will not only provide convenience to local traffic, but also draw more visitors to travel and experience spirit culture in the liquor town.

To celebrate its opening, two specially brewed small bottles of the famed Moutai liquor and plane models were given to each passenger on the first flight which arrived from Guiyang, capital city of Guizhou.

Planes link the airport to cities including Beijing, Tianjin, Chengdu, Fuzhou, Xi'an and Haikou. Air routes will be expanded to a total of 18 cities in the near future, the Guizhou-based Moutai Group said.

In 2016, Moutai saw its output reach around 60,000 tons, with sales revenues surpassing 38.8 billion yuan, up 18.99 percent year-on-year.
