The municipal government of Xingyi is to invest 460 million yuan ($66.25 million) on redeveloping Jinjia village, to preserve the area’s history as well as create a new tourist attraction.

The 700-year-old village is just three kilometers away from downtown Xingxi and is the hometown of Wang Wenhua, a commander of the Guizhou army in the early twentieth century, and Wand Boqun, the first Minister of Transport in the Republic of China.

The government plans to rebuild their former residences into scenic spots, as well as transform the village into a “bougainvillea town” – representing the flower of Xingyi.

Jingjia village is located next to Xingyi’s signature scenic spot -- Wanfeng Forest – a range of mountains and karst landforms.

The redevelopment of the 4.6-square-kilometer village is set to benefit its 3,000 residents, boosting incomes and employing some 500 locals in the tourism industry.
