China's Guizhou province has attracted the attention of the US's New York Times because of its unique landscape and its new steps in recent years to attract tourists and appeared in the paper's travel section of Jan 7 of this year, as one of 52 top destinations around the world worth visiting in 2016, and for its "authentic Chinese hill tribes without mass tourism".

An editor of the travel section, Dan Saltzstein, said that they narrowed down a lengthy list of destinations to 52 that they believe have charming geographical features and that most Americans are not familiar with Guizhou so they listed it as a good place to explore.

There has been rapid development of transportation in the province, bringing in an increasing number of tourists from other provinces and from overseas. Saltzstein went on to say that the unique scenery of the place are what he looks for, and its environment and ethnic groups and villages provide an alternative to the hustle and bustle of cities like Beijing and Shanghai.

And, while there is urbanization worldwide, making the world a smaller place with a faster pace of life, Guizhou is impressive for its "unhurried life style" and is "an amazing place". The only other Chinese place to join Guizhou on the travel list was the city of Hangzhou, Zhejiang province.
