People say that the phosphorus chemical industry just means pollution and energy dissipation, but Kaiyang is changing the situation by leading a path of environmental protection, said a local official from Kaiyang prefecture, Southwest China's Guizhou province.

Kaiyang prefecture was named China's "Green City of Phosphorus" in December 2005, becoming the first green city with an intensive phosphorus chemical industry.

Guizhou Zhongkaixin Phosphorus Chemical Co, founded in 2012, has drawn up a blueprint to construct the nation's biggest 10-billion-yuan ($1.6 billion) recycling phosphorus chemical industry, laying the foundation for a 100-billion-yuan industrial park in Kaiyang prefecture.

The combination of production, teaching and research has boosted the utilization rate of yellow phosphorus tail gas to 90 percent, said Yang Jinsong, vice-president of a branch company of Guizhou Zhongkaixin.

Zhongkaixin is cooperating with Tianjin University to invest 90 million yuan into project development. A project with 600 million in total investments is expected to complete and begin operations in 2016.

Thanks to the injection of science and technology, pollution and emissions are no longer a tough job, said Yang

Zhongkaixin is constructing the nation's biggest fire retardant research center jointly with the Beijing Institute of Technology.

Liu Jianbo, president of Guizhou Anda Science and Energy Resource Co in Kaiyang, is insisting on updating and transforming from a polluted industry to economically-friendly one.

Anda, established in 1996, decided to transform itself after experiencing the Asian financial crisis in 1997 and the global financial crisis in 2008. Anda hopes to develop materials for lithium-ion batteries.

Anda began transforming in 2010. It became an exclusive supplier of lithium-ion batteries for cars when battery grade iron phosphate industrialized in 2011.

Anda is expected to be listed on the "new three board" in the first half of 2014, said Liu.
