The Ministry of Environmental Protection released an air quality report covering 74 cities in the third quarter on October 22, 2013. Guiyang made it into the top 10 for the cities with the best air quality in China.
The top 10 cities are Haikou, Zhoushan, Huizhou, Zhuhai, Fuzhou, Lhasa, Huzhou, Taizhou, Yinchuan, Lishui and Guiyang. The air quality in Taizhou, Yinchuan, Lishui and Guiyang has improved significantly compared with last quarter.
The bottom 10 cities are Xingtai, Shijiazhuang, Tangshan, Handan, Jinan, Hengshui, Tianjin, Baoding, Zhengzhou and Langfang.
Experts suggested that the reason for the improvement in air quality in Guiyang lies in its good meteorological conditions, which are conducive to pollutant dispersion, as well as increased government environmental efforts, including measures to limit dust and vehicle exhaust.
