There are 47 ethnic groups in Hechi, including the Zhuang, Han, Yao, Miao, Mulao and Maonan, and five minority autonomous counties - Luocheng Mulam, Huanjiang Maonan, Du’an Yao, Bama Yao, and Dahua Yao - and 11 minority towns.

There are 3.4 million members of ethnic groups in the city, accounting for 85.23 percent of the population. Mulao and Maonan have a very small population, while Luocheng Mulam and Huanjiang Maonan are unique in China. Nandan county’s Baiku Yao is a prominent part of the Yao ethnic group.

The urbanization rate in Hechi is 36.06 percent and more than 60 percent of its people live in rural areas, making Hechi an agricultural city.

 

Mulao and Maonan have a very small population, while Luocheng Mulam and Huanjiang Maonan are unique in China.
