Updated: 2010-07-26

The 9th Debate Competition of University Students across the Taiwan Straits ends on July 25, 2010 after three-days of intense competition. Zhengzhou University, Taiwan Shixin University and Fujian Normal University rank first, second and third respectively.

Eight university debate delegations from each side participated in the competition. The debate topics included issues such as "whether love is ideal or practical", "whether Internet is good or bad for literature" and "which one is more important for first-class universities, good teachers or good students?". Finally, Li Mengzhu from Zhengzhou University and Xu Qinzhu from Taiwan Dongwu University received the best debaters' award.

Tang Guozhong, member of Fujian Provincial Party Committee and head of Fujian Publicity Department, said that since its founding in 2002 the debate competition has focused on the development of Chinese culture. The debate competition has been held yearly for 9 rounds. It has become an important platform for youth from the both sides of the Taiwan Straits and a way for the youth to communicate with each other, show case their talents, and learn.
