"The ecological cloud platform has made great contributions to the improvement of the ecological environment in Fujian," said Fu Zhaoyang, director of the Fujian Provincial Department of Ecology and Environment.

Fu made the remarks at the Digital Ecology Forum during the second Digital China Summit, which opened in Fuzhou, Fujian province, on May 6.

The cloud platform uses an artificial intelligence-based information collection system to gather all the data from more than 20 related departments in Fujian.

It also uses various monitoring terminals, drones, autonomous ships, the social media app WeChat, and live broadcasts to make environment management more visual and intelligent.

With the help of the cloud platform, the province has reduced the number of its pollution days by more than 50 percent.

He said that the ecological cloud platform in Fujian epitomizes constructing big data on ecological environments in all the provinces in China.

As early as 2001, Fujian started constructing an information system to monitor and supervise the environment. In May 2018, the province established the first provincial-level ecological environment big data platform in China.

According to Fu, the second phase of the cloud platform has started construction, and will allow the operator to check the data at any time as a solid foundation for decisions.
