Fuzhou, capital city of East China's Fujian province, recently rolled out a three-year plan to boost big data industry growth in the city, local media reported on Sept 26.

According to the plan (2018-2020), the city will set up a fund worth 10 billion yuan ($1.45 billion) to build itself into a national hub for big data development.

By the end of 2020, it aims to establish the largest data storage center in China, set up platforms for big data innovation, application and demonstration, as well as cluster a large group of leading research institutes, universities and businesses in the sector.

Meanwhile, Fuzhou also plans to further enhance the city's capabilities in terms of data computing and asset management, and optimize its government services and smart city construction based on big data technologies.

It is estimated that the industry in Fuzhou will be worth 200 billion yuan by 2025. By then, it will grow to be a key driving force for local economic growth, the plan says.
