Jian'ou leapfrogs in bamboo industry

Jian'ou, a city in northern Fujian has made strides in the bamboo industry in recent years, local media reported Tuesday.

Statistics show that the bamboo plantation in the city has reached about 1.34 million mus (89,334 hectares), with mao bamboo accounting for 99 percent of the total.

In 2017, the city topped the country in the area of mao bamboo plantation and the annual output of bamboo wood and fresh bamboo shoots.

Jian'ou is a renowned historical and cultural city with history over 3,000 years. Its congenial climate and fertile soil has long made it a treasured place for producing agro-products including rice, tea, edible mushrooms, tangerines and bamboo shoots.
