Fujian places 8th in the national economic comprehensive competiveness rankings, according to a report released in Beijing Thursday.

The report, compiled by the School of Economics of Fujian Normal University, in 2016, ranks Fujian 8th among the 31 provinces and municipalities in China in terms of economic competiveness.

East China's Jiangsu province topped the list, followed by Guangdong, Beijing, Shanghai, Zhejiang and Shandong, Tianjin, Fujian, Henan and Chongqing.

Fujian remained the same in ranking as in the previous year while Chongqing edged past Hubei to secure a top ten slot.

The report also provides in-depth analysis of the country's development status since the 19th CPC National Congress from the perspectives of economic growth and regional, industrial, entrepreneurial and green development.

Li Shenming, former vice president of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, spoke highly of the report, saying it is of great reference value for both government and academia, given its depth and breadth.
