Yanya village is a fishing village located on Dongshan Island, the second largest island in Southeast China's Fujian province.

Formerly a poor village, Yanya has shaken off poverty in recent years especially after new roads connecting the village with the outside world were built.

The rustic village’s unspoiled natural landscapes were quickly noticed, with hundreds of visitors coming to visit each month.

Those families who used to live on government welfare payments in the village started to run restaurants, homestays or sell seafood specialties to the visitors and gradually climbed out of the poverty mire.

This year, a bus route connecting the county center to Yanya was also opened, bringing another impetus to the village's rural tourism development.

During the recent National Day holiday, Yanya received roughly 200 visitors per day.
