Living standards for ordinary residents in Southeast China's Fujian province have risen hugely in recent years, as the government has kept improving people's livelihoods top of their agenda.

Over the past five years, Fujian has been investing heavily in education, poverty alleviation, medical insurance, senior care services and infrastructure construction in a drive to improve quality of life for people across the province.

In 2016, Fujian spent 330 billion yuan ($49.5 billion), more than 70 percent of its public fiscal expenditure, on people's livelihoods.

The annual per capita disposable income of the province's urban and rural residents reached 36,014 yuan and 13,999 yuan respectively, an increase of 40.2 percent and 47.4 percent compared with 2012.

The per capita income of Fujian residents grew even more quickly than the province's GDP over that period.
