Shanghang county’s history of art on full display

Nearly 50 of the finest artworks ever created by artists from Shanghang county in western Fujian province are now on show in the provincial capital, Fuzhou. The collection of paintings, calligraphy works and other artifacts will be on show till April 2.

Featuring 38 artists from the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) to present day, the exhibition showcases the extraordinary artistic heritage of the small county in Longyan prefecture.

Much of the county’s 2,880 square kilometers of land is covered by wild forest and rivers, and this picturesque scenery has been inspiring artists for centuries.

This small corner of Southeast China has produced a surprising number of famous artists, from the renowned painters Li Yuan and Ying Yuan, who lived during the Ming and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties respectively, as well as the renowned Qing Dynasty polymath Hua Yan, who mastered painting, calligraphy and poetry.

Time: March 25 to April 2

Location: Ruijia Art Museum, inside the Culture and Creativity Park, 140 North Baima Road, Fuzhou city, Fujian

Getting there: Take bus lines 16, 18, 27, 61,77 105, 109,121, 320, and stop at Fujian People’s Art Theater station, which is located on the other side of North Baima Road.
