The Fujian province city of Fuzhou's air quality ranked among China's best in 2016 and was listed in the nation's top three from September to November.

Having achieved a solid national reputation for blue skies and clean air through a variety of social media platforms, the city has implemented dust monitor systems at major construction sites, the province's first.

The city has also began devoting itself to urban renewal with a series of ecologically minded projects including redeveloping a run-down neighborhood, greening many of the city's area, ensuring quality water treatment, and promoting the improvement in urban planning projects.

Clear examples of these initiatives are the expansions and renovations that have taken place at a number of city parks. The city authorities will build on these developments with more citywide parks to be developed in the coming year aimed at providing a better living environment for residents and attracting a greater number of tourists.

It will also launch a project focused on instituting better urban planning. It aims to develop a strong flood prevention system, spread environmental awareness and polices in the Fuzhou's surrounding rural areas, and promote the use of renewable energy.
