Fujian province, nestled in a corner of southeast China, has a subtropical monsoon climate and as a consequence enjoys warm and dry Decembers. Unlike many parts of China that spend December buried in snow, Fujian's final month of the year is the time to enjoy the harvest and it does so with a distinctive flair.

Guifeng village, located in Fujian's mountainous county of Youxi, exemplifies these traditions with scenes of vivid celebration. The Guifeng festivities started on Dec 10 and will run until January 2017.

A particularly striking aspect of the season are the color contrasts between the hillside green of trees, the black of tiles that belong to traditional village houses, and the reds, yellows, and oranges of harvested crops that are laid out on large bamboo baskets.
