On the 15th day of the first lunar month, there is Lantern Festival in China. The Lantern Festival of the Year of the Monkey falls on February 22nd this year, it's also known as Yuan Xiao Jie (元宵节), meaning "first night of the full moon" (Hokkiens call it Chap Ngor Mei, meaning "15th Night").

The Lantern Festival has been part of Chinese New Year celebrations since the Han Dynasty (206 BC- 221 AD). Usually held on the 15th day of the first month of the lunar calendar, it signifies the end of Chinese New Year celebrations. It is extended with the historical development. Lantern Festival's Holiday lasts for one day in Han Dynasty, three days in Tang Dynasty, five days in Song and in Ming Dynasty the Lantern Festival started from 8th to 17th, it lasts for 10 days.

In the streets of Xiamen, big and small, and in every family, beautiful festival lanterns are decorated. During the night, the transparent palace lanterns, merry-go-round lanterns, Baolian lanterns, lotus-shaped lanterns and elephant-shaped lanterns shed dazzling brightness in all directions.
