China nominated two scenic spots for inclusion on the World Heritage List on Feb 1, including the Gulangyu Island in Fujian province and the Kekexili Nature Reserve in Qinghai.

Gulangyu Island, southeast of Xiamen city, covers an area of 1.78 square kilometers and is known as a "garden by the sea" and the "town of pianos". It is famous for its outstanding musicians and musical instruments.

It is not only a popular attraction with Chinese tourists, but also internationally known for its natural beauty, appealing lifestyle, safe atmosphere and business environment.

This summer, experts from UNESCO's World Heritage Committee will visit Gulangyu Island for inspection and in 2017, the 41st session of World Heritage Committee will discuss Gulangyu's inscription.

The World Heritage Committee, responsible for the implementation of the World Heritage Convention, comprises representatives of 21 countries, with the aim of protecting natural and cultural properties. Each year, the committee adds new sites to the List.

China currently has 48 sites included on the World Heritage List, ranking second in the world.
