Fuzhou has completed construction of 100 sites for sports including basketball, tennis and ping-pong to meet residents’ growing workout needs, according to an official on Oct 25.

The “100 Courts” program was proposed and implemented before the National Youth Games (NYG), the largest sports meeting Fujian has ever seen, with Fuzhou staging about 60 percent of the events, said Chen Yong, head of the Fuzhou Urban and Rural Planning Bureau at a NYG press conference.

The majority of the sites were built on empty areas in parks, on street corners and under viaducts in urban areas within a circle with a 10-minute driving radius. Most of them have been opened to the public, he added.

The NYG have brought many positive outcomes to Fuzhou and Fujian and had a deep effect on the city, said Yang Yimin, mayor of Fuzhou.
