The construction of a high-speed railway in East China’s Fujian province is expected to start by the end of this year, reported the Straits Herald on Tuesday.

The 290-kilometer railway will connect the coastal cities of Fuzhou, Putian, Quanzhou, Xiamen and Zhangzhou, with nine stations in between, according to a draft design plan.

The plan has passed reviews by the China Railway Corporation and the Fujian Development and Reform Commission. The official version is expected to come out soon, says the newspaper.

With a designed maximum speed of 350 kilometers per hour, the high-speed railway will shorten the travel time between Fuzhou and Xiamen to less than one hour.
