If you are planning to visit Gulangyu Island, please do remember to book tickets for the passenger ferries in advance. Around 10,000 passengers cannot get a ferry ticket every day during the summer vacation, according to the Xiamen Tourism Bureau’s official Weibo account.
Tickets for the passenger ferries to Gulangyu are hot in demand and the gap between supply and demand widens especially during the summer vacation, according to the reports.
The maximum daily tourist volume for Gulangyu Island is 65,000, according to figures issued by China National Tourism Administration. To guarantee tourists’ safety and quality of experience from visiting the island, excessive number of tourists will not be received.
It is normal procedure to limit daily tourist volume at many popular tourist attractions in order to maintain sustainable development. The Forbidden City capped daily tourist volume at 80,000 from June 13th this year.
Tourists are advised to buy ferry tickets online instead of buying tickets on site. Pre-sale ferry tickets are available on the official website of Xiamen Ferry Company (http://www.xmferry.com/) or its Wechat platform.
Tourists can also purchase tickets from self-service ticket machines at departure wharfs.
