Mental disorders leading death cause for Xiamen women

The Center for Disease Control of the Xiamen government published a “2014 Health Report in Xiamen” on April 14. The report listed the 10 leading causes of death for Xiamen residents in 2014, of which malignant tumors remained 1st, as it has for 17 consecutive years, and mental disorders were listed as one of the top 10 leading causes of death for females in Xiamen for the first time.

In 2014, malignant tumors, heart disease and cerebrovascular diseases were ranked as the top 3 causes of death for Xiamen residents, accounting for 65.03% of the entire amount. 5,875 new cases of cancer were reported in Xiamen in 2014, and the overall incidence rate reached 288.81/100,000 cases. The death rate of malignant tumors reached 160.36/100,000 cases, up 8.08% year on year.

Up to 31st December 2014, Xiamen’s population reached 3.75 million, including 2.03 million registered citizens. 32,903 babies were born and registered in 2014, including 17,858 baby boys and 15,046 baby girls.

Xiamen’s average life expectancy rate rose to 80.02 years in 2014, among which the male average life expectancy rate was 77.09 and the female average life expectancy rate was 83.19 years.
