Authorities in Fujian province are studying proper measures on the construction of the modern Maritime Silk Road, according to a report by the 21st Century Business Herald.

The blueprint for Fujian as a core area on the route features “six platforms” and “three bases”, said Huang Duan, director of the Development and Research Center of the Fujian provincial Government.

The six platforms refer to platforms of opening-up, economic and trade cooperation, financial innovation, policy communications, cultural exchange and cross-Straits integration, and the three bases point at advanced manufacturing, energy and marine exploitation and scientific research, he added.

The cities of Quanzhou, Fuzhou, Xiamen and Pingtan will be at the forefront in the revival of the ancient route, six other cities – Zhangzhou, Putian, Sanming, Longyan and Nanping-- will serve as the hinterland.

Fujian will also enhance cooperation with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) under the Maritime Road scheme and come up with an array of innovations and reforms.

“New policies can be piloted in Fujian, especially in Pingtan, where restrictions on overseas investments and foreign exchange can be eased. Fujian will also cooperate with ASEAN to relax customs clearance in order to boost trade,” said Huang.
