Electricity consumption in Fujian soars in 2014

Total electricity use amounted to 1.86 trillion kilowatt-hours in 2014, an increase of 9.1 percent year-on-year, Fujian Daily reported, citing figures from the Fujian subsidiary of State Grid.

The 9.1 percent growth is the fourth highest in China, and the highest in East China.

Year-on-year power consumption growth rates in the agriculture, industries and service sectors and residential use stood at 11.9 percent, 8.2 percent, 11.5 percent and 10.9 percent, respectively.

The cities of Ningde, Zhangzhou and Putian and the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone witnessed at least 16 percent growth in power use, led by Ningde with a 20.7 percent increase.

Installed capacity of electricity in Fujian reached 44.5 million kW, after an addition of 3.4 million kW.

Gross power generation surged 4.5 percent from the previous year to 187 billion kWh.
