Fujian province will make efforts to further promote communications and cooperation with Taiwan, according to Fujian Governor Su Shulin.

To achieve that, Fujian and Taiwan will implement a plan to connect each other’s industries and enterprises, through which they will jointly develop a batch of big projects and push for industrial transformation and upgrading, said Su in an annual government work report delivered at the 3rd session of the 12th Fujian Provincial People’s Congress on Jan 28.

Young Taiwanese people are encouraged to come to Fujian for career startups. Financial institutions in Fujian and Taiwan are expected to carry out more cooperation such as setting up joint securities companies and private equity funds.

Figures show that in 2014, the trade volume between Fujian and Taiwan amounted to $12.4 billion. About $1.2 billion from Taiwanese investors were realized, up by 11 percent year-on-year. 10 of Taiwan’s Top 100 enterprises expanded their business in Fujian. And the some 2.6 million people travelled between Fujian and Taiwan on air and sea routes.

The Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone will play a bigger role in cross-Strait integration taking advantage of more preferential policies. It will enhance business promotion efforts and accelerate the construction of an emerging industrial zone, a high-end service zone and a livable zone, taking a further step towards the goal of a becoming a free trade port and an international tourism island. More reforms and innovative measures in customs and quarantines, road rights for cross-Straits vehicles, urban construction and landscape protection will be adopted to attract more Taiwanese to work and live in Pingtan, said Su.

In addition, Fujian and Taiwan will boost cultural interactions through the hosting of the 7th Strait Forum, increasing visits of clans who shared same ancestors. More Taiwanese young people will come to Fujian for a variety of cultural activities. And the two sides will deepen communication and cooperation in education, healthcare, science as well as sports.
