One person with H7N9 avian flu in Putian city, Fujian province, died on Jan 15, the local disease control and prevention authority said.

The man, 54, had raised poultry in his house. He showed symptoms of trembling, fever and coughing on Jan 5, and was declared dead in the hospital on Jan 15.

A woman was also recently diagnosed with H7N9 in Putian. She is in a critical situation and receiving treatment in a hospital in Fuzhou.

Avian flu is increasingly becoming a serious threat in Fujian. More than 20 human H7N9 infections have been reported since December.

Local authorities have been urged to step up H7N9 prevention and control efforts, especially in poultry markets.
