A total 658,379 lightning strikes were detected in Fujian province in 2014, the highest number in eleven years, according to the provincial meteorological authority.

The number of disasters caused by lightning strikes reached 151, which is 79 less than the previous year, leaving 14 dead and 7 injured.

289 days, or 79 percent of days in 2014, saw lightning and thunder in Fujian last year. More than 3,000 lightning strikes in a single day were recorded on 60 days.
