XMU's tourist restriction system helps nab 7 fugitives since 2012

Xiamen University launched its system to limit tourist numbers in 2012 at its Siming campus

Since Xiamen University launched its system to limit tourist numbers in 2012 at its Siming campus, the system, which requires every visitor to identify themselves with ID cards, has helped nab 7 fugitives.

One fugitive, surnamed Song, was arrested at the entrance of the campus after his ID card triggered a red alarm on an ID card identification machine recently. The XMU security guards and nearby policemen successfully apprehended the fugitive.

The fugitive is a Zhejiang native who was being hunted by the Zhejiang Police.

According to the Security Department of the campus, the ID card identification machines are used to identify visitors and to count the number of tourists. The machines can send firsthand information to alert the campus’s security department and nearby police stations if the system identifies a suspect’s ID card.

The machines also have a blacklist of captured thieves and individuals who are not allowed to visit the campus.

The Xiang’an campus of Xiamen University also has 3 ID card identification machines set up at the entrance and exit of the campus.
