Xiamen, in Fujian province, imported 1,557 batches of aquatic products weighing 68,800 tons in 2014, with a year-on-year increase of 51 percent, half of which were from Taiwan and 40 percent from Indonesia.

Xiamen Dongdu Port recently made it onto the country’s first list of ports allowed to import frozen aquatic products, which made the Tongyi Wharf in the port a major importation access point for Taiwan frozen aquatic products in Fujian. Furthermore, a zero-tariff policy, approved by the Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA), entitles Xiamen as the first stop in the Chinese mainland to import Taiwan’s aquatic products.

Sauries, squids, wuzi fish and turtle eggs are the top four popular aquatic products imported by Xiamen from Taiwan, tipping the scales at 24,200 tons in 2014, an increase of 15.8 percent. Taiwan’s yield of sauries has ranked first in the world for two years. Xiamen imported sauries weighing 19,300 tons with a value of $ 15 million in 2014.
