Fujian official jailed for 10 years for bribery

A high-ranking official with the Fujian Environmental Protection Department was recently sentenced to 10 years on charges of bribery by a court in Fuzhou city.

Wang Guochang was found to have accepted 1.6 million yuan ($258,000) in bribes, including cash and gifts, from more than 30 enterprises when he worked at the Fujian Environmental Protection Bureau and was later promoted as the deputy head of the Fujian Environmental Protection Department from 2001 to 2013, said the Fuzhou Intermediate People's Court.

Wang was arrested on June 25, 2013. The court also confiscated his personal property valued at 200,000 yuan.
