Officials of the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone (PCPZ) in Fujian province greeted journalists on Nov 8, it being the 15th Journalist Day in China.

Li Dejin, director of PCPZ’s administrative committee, said he hoped journalists can record the drastic changes Pingtan is going through with their professional and unique news angles, and continue to play an irreplaceable role in promoting Pingtan to the world.

10 local journalists were honored with the award of excellence. They are Wang Fengshan, Zhu Bin, Lin Hui, Yang Changhua, You Lanqin, Ge Dan, Ji Yajun, Nian Wangshu, Yu Xiaoyan and Xie Fazhen.

It wasn’t easy for journalists to come to Pingtan during the past three years, when the county was so shorthanded in terms of media manpower and equipment, said Li.

Chinese President Xi Jinping noted that Pingtan is a window of cross-Straits cooperation and the opening up of China. And the two windows can not be fully opened without efforts by the media, he added.

Li also called for journalists to open their minds in their work to produce more quality news to capture the development of Pingtan.
