T4 building of Xiamen Gaoqi Int'l Airport nears completion

The construction of the Terminal 4 building at Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport has entered its final phase and service at the new terminal is expected to start by the end of 2014.

The construction of the Xiamen Gaoqi Int’l Airport’s T4 building began in November 2012. With a total construction area of 108,000 square meters, it is designed to handle an annual passenger throughput of 12 million.

The Xiamen Gaoqi Int’l Airport’s T4 building consists of a T4 terminal, a viaduct, a parking lot, and an apron. The 1st phase of the project for the T4 terminal covers a total area of 75,000 square meters and is expected to supply 896 parking places for passengers.

The current Terminal 3 covers an area of 13,000 square meters and is designed to handle 8-10 million passengers annually. However, the annual passenger throughput of Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport hit 15 million in 2011, far beyond its designed capacity, and the figure has continued to rise at over 15% per year since.

The Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport is expected to welcome a 2-terminal operation mode after Terminal 4 is put into service. According to staff at the airport, all the systems of Terminal 4 will be joined together with Terminal 3’s systems to improve efficiency.
