Mild smog affected the cities of Fuzhou, Putian and Longyan in Fujian province on Oct 26 and 27, according to the provincial Environmental Protection Bureau.

It is the second time that Fujian reported the occurrence of smog in October, which is two months earlier than in 2013.

The smog is mainly caused by increasing pollutants, some of which are blown in by cold fronts from the north.

Severe airborne pollution shrouded Hebei province, Beijing and Tianjin in north China from Oct 23 to 25.

“It is hard to predict if smog will strike Fujian earlier than before from now on. But the long-distance travel of pollutants from the north has clearly affected Fujian’s air quality,” said an official with the Bureau.
