Each of them got a subsidy of 5,000 yuan ($814) at a donation ceremony organized by the Social Affairs Department and PCPZ’s working committee.

Haixia Calligraphy and Painting Academy subsidized 78 students, using part of a fund from a charitable auction of art works earlier this year. The other 11 beneficiaries were aided by local enterprises thanks to matchmaking efforts by the working committee.

Zhou Qingsong, deputy director of PCPZ’s administrative committee, praised those philanthropists who pitched in, saying they showed tremendous love for the building of a “Common Homeland” in Pingtan, and the great cause of grant endowment would continue in the future.

Donating to students in need will benefit many generations and is worthy of promotion, said Gao Xiaoyong, an entrepreneur.
