Fujian province made a major donation to Southwest China’s Yunnan province, which was recently ravaged by a powerful earthquake, on Aug 6.

The donation included 7 million yuan ($1.1 million) in cash and 1.5 million yuan’s worth of quake relief products including 5,000 blankets, 3,000 flashlights, 1,800 raincoats, 2,500 shirts and 2,800 summer-military uniforms, according to the Fujian provincial department of Civil Affairs.

A 6.5-magnitude earthquake hit Ludian county in Yunnan on Aug 3, killing more than 600 people as of Thursday.

The Fujian Provincial Party Committee and Fujian provincial government donated 3 million yuan ($486,000) to the province on Aug 5.

Fujian’s total donations to Yunnan now add up to 10 million yuan in cash and quake-relief goods valuing 1.5 million yuan.

On behalf of its more than 37 million people, Fujian expresses deep concern for those affected by the disaster. It honors the soldiers and people who came to the rescue on the frontlines and has decided to donate the money as a quake-relief fund, said a message of condolence jointly issued by the committee and government.

With the entire country’s support, Yunnan will no doubt overcome all sorts of difficulties in the aftermath of the quake and rebuild the homeland for its people, the message said.
