Ren Kangqiang, an official from the tariff policy department under the General Administration of Customs, talked about the usage and advantages of the system, which went live on April 1 in many ports on the Chinese mainland and has been instrumental in customs departments across the Taiwan Straits.

The system is capable of real-time transfers of customs data, especially the origin of goods pertaining to the Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA), and enjoys favorable tariff policies.

Using the system, customs authorities can double check certificates of origin for goods within a short time and deter fraud attempts. It breaks new ground in cross-Straits customs cooperation and is an important technical guarantee to implement ECFA.

The system will help accelerate customs clearance and help enterprises get authentic information on imported goods, which will protect their rights, according to a worker at Fuzhou Customs.
